Srinagar: AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Thursday congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Batamallo Traders’ Association and called for greater unity and transparency among traders’ bodies.

Speaking at a felicitation programme for the new leadership, including President Abrar Ahmad Khan, General Secretary Wasim Ahmad Khan and Senior Vice President Mehraj U Din Ganai, Inam said elected representatives had a responsibility to work for the welfare of those who had chosen them.

He stressed the need for traders’ associations, chambers and other representative bodies to maintain greater transparency and accountability by periodically disclosing their income and expenditure.

Inam also opposed the practice of collecting commissions from shopkeepers for resolving their grievances, saying elected representatives should address genuine concerns without such payments.

He proposed a common platform for traders and business associations, saying multiple bodies approaching authorities separately on similar issues could create confusion and weaken the collective voice of the business community.
