Thiruvananthapuram: Artificial intelligence will bring major changes to Keralam society and help improve the quality of life, said industries, IT and AI minister P K Kunhalikutty.“AI is going to have a great impact on our society. It can bring significant changes to the way we live and work,” Kunhalikutty said while speaking at the launch of MeitY IndiaAI Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.He said Keralam had often adopted new technologies to address challenges and had never allowed itself to fall behind in technological advancement. AI, he said, would open up opportunities for the state to make further progress by applying technology across different sectors.Kunhalikutty said the state govt is committed to promoting the use of AI and discussed a new AI initiative at the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. “The initiative received wide acceptance in the cabinet,” he said.The minister also said govt would work with Digital University Kerala (DUK) to strengthen the state’s AI ecosystem. The centre, established with the support of the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), is aimed at strengthening Keralam’s applied AI ecosystem and promoting innovation and industry collaboration.Following the launch, selection letters were handed over to 15 startups incubated under the initiative. The programme seeks to provide an ecosystem for startups working on AI-based solutions and encourage the development and adoption of AI technologies in the state.The centre is expected to serve as a platform connecting academia, startups, industry and govt agencies to develop practical AI applications for various sectors.
