Rajkot: The Rajkot Division of Western Railway has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Smart RS Valve Simulator to provide realistic training to loco pilots and assistant loco pilots, with the aim of enhancing railway safety, operational efficiency and emergency response.Senior divisional commercial manager Sunil Kumar Meena said the indigenously developed simulator recreates real-life railway operations using videos of actual routes and an AI-based real-time signal control system. It can simulate a range of operating conditions, including daytime, nighttime, rainfall and dense fog, enabling train crew to prepare for challenging situations.Senior divisional electrical engineer (Traction) Manoj Kumar Rao said the simulator also trains loco pilots to handle scenarios such as cattle collisions, person-hit incidents, speed restriction indicators and signal passed at danger (SPAD) situations. It is designed to improve reaction time, braking skills, speed regulation, signal compliance and decision-making during emergencies.The system generates an automated performance report after every training session, allowing instructors to identify skill gaps and tailor further training.Railway officials said the simulator provides a safe and cost-effective training environment without disrupting live railway operations. It also enables trainers to accurately assess individual performance while boosting the confidence and preparedness of loco pilots.Divisional railway manager Giriraj Kumar Meena said the Rajkot Division is leveraging innovation and modern technology to strengthen railway safety and operational excellence. He said the Smart RS Valve Simulator would enhance the decision-making ability, alertness, response skills and confidence of loco pilots, contributing to safer and more reliable railway operations.Developed entirely in-house by the Rajkot Division, the AI-powered simulator is expected to further strengthen railway safety and operational efficiency while reinforcing Western Railway’s commitment to providing safe and reliable rail services.
