Ahmedabad: Bodakdev police registered a case of abetment to suicide on Saturday against a hotel employee after a 30-year-old woman allegedly took her life in her rented room in Ambikanagar, Thaltej, on Friday. The woman has been identified as Sonamoni Bairagya, who worked at a hotel near Rajpath Club. She allegedly tied a dupatta to the ventilation window and hanged herself.The victim’s brother, Biswajit Karmakar, filed a complaint against her co-worker, Asadali Sheikh, alleging abetment. Bairagya is married and has a daughter. The complaint states that the victim’s family received a phone call informing them of the alleged suicide. Karmakar, who works in Gandhidham, reached Civil Hospital along with his brother, and an autopsy was conducted there. He has alleged that the accused harassed his sister and that he learned of it after going through her WhatsApp chats. Police registered the complaint under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and said the investigation will rely on digital chats, witness statements, and other evidence. Her family members in West Bengal, however, refuse to believe the suicide claim.
