Ahmedabad: Three members of a family, including a two-year-old girl, were found dead in the Narmada canal near Piyaj village in Kalol, Gandhinagar, on Thursday. Police suspect they died by suicide after a dispute in the family.The deceased were identified as Sangeeta Prajapati, 50, her daughter Neha, 25, and Neha’s two-year-old daughter Pahal. The family, originally from Tarati village in Mehsana, lived in Ahmedabad. According to police, the bodies were recovered from the canal early morning after locals alerted the authorities. Initial investigation indicated that the three had entered the canal together. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and further investigation is underway.During the probe, police came across messages and social media posts purportedly uploaded by Neha shortly before the incident. In the posts, she referred to family tensions and alleged mental harassment by her sister-in-law. She claimed that disputes within the family had strained her relationship with her brother and affected her mother’s living arrangements.Neha also states in the posts that neither her husband nor certain other relatives were responsible for her decision. Authorities are verifying the authenticity of the messages and determining whether they were published by the deceased.Police said statements of family members and relatives will be recorded as part of the inquiry. The cops also began examining the circumstances that led to the deaths and whether the allegations in the messages disclose any offence.Officials said a case of accidental death has been registered, and allegations of harassment and abetment are being investigated.
