Ahmedabad: A 29-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a group of five to six men after a minor accident near Takshashila Air on Ashram Road, early on Friday.According to the complaint filed with Ellisbridge police by Salman Shaikh, a resident of Kalupur, he was riding his friend Sohel Shaikh’s scooter when the assault occurred around 12.45am.Salman told police that after having tea at CG Road, he and Sohel were returning to Ellisbridge.Near Takshashila Air, an Activa rider approaching from the opposite direction was allegedly looking at his mobile phone. Salman shouted at him to watch the road, following which the rider suddenly braked. The scooter skidded and collided with the duo’s two-wheeler.The complainant said he and Sohel stopped to help the rider, who left the spot. However, within minutes, five to six men arrived and allegedly began abusing the duo before attacking them.As Sohel went to call police, the group allegedly assaulted Salman, punching and kicking him and hitting him in the face, head, abdomen and back. One of the attackers allegedly used an umbrella carried by the complainant to assault him.Three passersby who tried to intervene were also allegedly beaten with the umbrella and fists, police said.The attackers fled after a crowd gathered. Salman then ran towards Town Hall, where he met Ellisbridge police personnel, who took him to VS Hospital.Police are examining CCTV footage to identify the accused.
