Ahmedabad: A plastic raw-material trader has filed a complaint with Anandnagar police, alleging he was cheated of Rs 2.7 lakh by a tour operator who had promised a China tour package for a trade fair.The trader said he planned to visit China for business and contacted the operator through an acquaintance. A package for him and his brother-in-law, including tour expenses, extra accommodation, airfare and an invitation letter, was finalised at about Rs 2.7 lakh.According to the complaint, he made online payments from his business account, paying Rs 1 lakh and Rs 64,000 in Jan and Rs 20,000 in Feb. After submitting documents, he received a proforma invoice and later transferred the balance, taking the total to Rs 2.7 lakh.The operator allegedly claimed the visa process had started, and visas would arrive by April 22, but none came. He later issued a Rs 1.6 lakh refund cheque, which bounced twice for insufficient funds. The office was later found closed, police said.
