Ahmedabad: A 37-year-old businessman was attacked during a religious procession in Sardarnagar area on Friday. The Ahmedabad police, according to a police complaint filed after the incident, said multiple participants were injured.The victim registered a complaint with the Airport police. The complainant stated that members of the community joined a religious procession on tempos from Naroda Patiya. The group reached Ambawadi Circle, where participants were dancing as part of the celebration. Around 9pm, “an unknown man slapped my friend without any reason”, the complainant told police.When the youth confronted the man and asked, “Why did you slap me?”, an argument broke out. The accused reportedly left the spot but later returned and again started arguing as the procession moved ahead, the complainant stated.The complainant further stated that after the ceremonial immersion of the sacred flame near the river, some participants began heading home on two-wheelers. Near a pumping station and a temple on the route, “three unknown men on a white two-wheeler kicked our vehicle and forced us to stop”, the 37-year-old complainant said.The complainant said the attackers then began arguing and, despite being told, “Let us go, we have done nothing wrong”, one of them allegedly brought a wooden stick and struck him on the head. “The other two started beating us and hit me with iron knuckle weapons,” he said.Soon after, “two more unknown men came from behind with an iron pipe and a knife” and attacked another youth, causing head and leg injuries. A third person who tried to intervene was also assaulted.The injured were taken to a private hospital in Naroda Patiya. The complaint said one victim received seven stitches, while another suffered 27 stitches. Police have begun an investigation.
