Ahmedabad: The city recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6°C on Monday, about 2.8 degrees above normal. This was the first day since June 18 that the maximum temperature was below 40°C. The minimum temperature was 29.7°C, also 2.5 degrees above normal. Overcast skies brought light drizzle to parts of the city in the afternoon, though humidity remained high.The southwest monsoon front currently stands at Surat. The Met department expects it to advance further this week, bringing light to moderate rain to parts of south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra from Tuesday. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast for parts of South Gujarat from Friday.Surendranagar was the only weather station in the state to cross 40°C on Monday, recording 40.5°C. By 8pm, 23 talukas had received at least 1mm of rainfall, with Valod in Tapi district recording the highest at 52mm.
