Ahmedabad: The health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up efforts to curb mosquito-borne diseases ahead of the monsoon season. Between Jan and May 2026, the city recorded 6,578 online complaints related to mosquito breeding. Of these, 3,296 complaints were reported from the western area and 3,282 from the eastern area over the past five months. Among the seven zones of Ahmedabad, the western zone accounted for the highest number with 1,576 complaints, with Navrangpura, Paldi and Vasna wards reporting the most cases of mosquito breeding. An official from the AMC, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The AMC has created a CCRS portal to receive complaints from citizens, where issues related to mosquito breeding and fogging can be reported. From Jan to May, 6,578 complaints were registered across the city’s seven zones. The central zone recorded 639 complaints, the eastern zone 763, the northern zone 703, the northwestern zone 929, the southern zone 1,177, the southwestern zone 791, and the western zone 1,576. In the western zone, Navrangpura, Paldi and Vasna reported the maximum complaints, while Maninagar in the southern zone recorded the highest number. Behrampura and Danilimda wards reported the least complaints.”The official added, “The AMC conducts awareness programmes to prevent mosquito breeding across the city. Inspections are also carried out at construction sites, large commercial complexes, and public spaces. Open plots are sprayed with chemicals to prevent mosquito breeding, with drones deployed for this work. Higher complaints are usually reported from areas with more aware citizens. Once a complaint is received, fogging is carried out immediately. Ahead of the monsoon, spraying and routine fogging are being intensified to check mosquito breeding across the city.”According to the official, complaints about mosquito breeding typically rise after the first monsoon rains. “Even after the monsoon season, from Nov to Feb, complaints tend to increase. However, a decline in complaints was observed in the first five months of 2026. In Jan 2026, there were 1,158 complaints, followed by 2,391 in Feb, 1,866 in March and 886 in April. So far in May, only 277 complaints have been reported. Plans are being made to further reduce mosquito breeding complaints in the coming months,” the official said.BoxComplaints about mosquito breeding in Ahmedabad city ( Jan to May 2026)Zone – Total Mosquito ComplaintsCentral Zone – 639Eastern Zone – 763Northern Zone – 703Northwestern Zone – 929Southern Zone – 1,177Southwestern Zone – 791Western Zone – 1,576Total – 6,578
