Ahmedabad: A 54-year-old woman has lodged a police complaint after allegedly being bitten by her neighbour’s pet German shepherd in Vastral on Friday evening. The complainant claimed that the dog had attacked her twice, including a similar attack about four months ago.According to the complaint filed by Kapila Prajapati, the attack occurred around 5.30pm when she was sweeping the area outside her house. She stated that after stepping outside the gate to dispose of household waste, her neighbour’s pet dog allegedly came out and bit her on the right wrist, causing injuries.Following the complaint, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) took custody of the dog and shifted it to the Danilimda Dog Welfare Shelter. AMC officials said the dog was registered and vaccinated.Prajapati told police that her daughter, Purvi, who was at home at the time, immediately contacted the 108 emergency services. An ambulance arrived and took her to an AMC community health centre, where she received treatment and was later discharged. She subsequently contacted the police control room and later visited Ramol police station with her daughter to file a complaint against the dog’s owner, Dharmishtha Prajapati. In her complaint, Prajapati alleged that the same German shepherd had attacked her around four months ago, biting her on the right thigh, knee area and left wrist. She further alleged that the dog owner had left the house entrance open and failed to take adequate precautions to prevent the pet from posing a risk to people in the area.Police have registered the complaint and initiated an inquiry into the incident.Pet dog attacks have led to police action in the city in the past. In March, a passerby in Narol filed a complaint after allegedly being attacked by a pet German shepherd. The dog was reportedly unregistered at the time, though its owners later completed the registration process. In another incident in May 2025, a four-month-old girl was fatally mauled by a pet Rottweiler in Hathijan. The dog’s owner was arrested for alleged negligence, and the AMC impounded the animal.
