Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court complex at Gheekanta on Thursday received an email threatening to blow up the premises, triggering a large-scale security response. Police, fire brigade, bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), and dog squad teams rushed to the court complex and evacuated the building as a precaution.Officials said the threat email was received on Thursday morning, prompting authorities to immediately clear the court premises and adjoining sections functioning in the complex. Three fire brigade vehicles were stationed outside the court building while police personnel cordoned off the area during the search operation.Zone-2 DCP Bharat Rathod said that all people in the building had been safely evacuated. “A thorough search of the premises is being carried out by the bomb squad and dog squad teams. So far, nothing suspicious has been found, but the checking process is continuing,” he said.Court proceedings were temporarily halted as litigants, lawyers, and staff members were asked to vacate the building. Security teams also inspected areas around the court complex, including sections operating near Apna Bazar, as part of the precautionary drill.Police sources said the threat email appeared similar to several previous emails sent to courts and public institutions in recent months. Investigators believe many of these emails were circulated using IDs created or sold in bulk through illegal online networks.Earlier, the cybercrime branch arrested a man identified as Sourav Biswas from West Bengal in connection with the circulation of threatening emails to multiple institutions. Officials said the accused allegedly sold or shared access to numerous email IDs with individuals abroad through online platforms.Investigators suspect that some of those email accounts may still be in circulation, which could explain why similar threatening emails continue to surface even after the arrest.Notably, courts in Gujarat, including the high court and some district courts, received such threats in the past. However, officials said this was the first time that the metropolitan court at Gheekanta received a bomb threat. Police said a probe is underway to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender.
