Ahmedabad: A 54-year-old man allegedly attempted self-immolation inside Metropolitan Court No. 19 at Gheekanta on Thursday afternoon while attending proceedings related to a recovery warrant in a domestic violence and maintenance case.Karanj police inspector V S Vaghela said the man, identified as Parag Shah, a resident of Nadiad, poured a liquid, suspected to be petrol, on himself during the hearing and lit a matchstick.People present in the courtroom intervened immediately and doused the flames with water. Shah was taken to a hospital in a 108 ambulance.Police said Shah appeared to be distressed over the prolonged domestic violence case and the recovery proceedings linked to maintenance.Vaghela said Shah’s condition was stable and further legal action would be initiated after he recovers.
