Ahmedabad: A 27-year-old garment factory worker living near Memco Bridge reported that he was attacked after he refused to hand over his mobile phone to two acquaintances during a late-night walk.According to the complaint registered with the Meghaninagar police on Friday, the victim and his friend, who both work in a jeans unit, routinely walk along the railway tracks after dinner. On Friday around 9.30pm, while walking near the railway tracks, they encountered two men they knew from the area.The complainant stated that the two men approached and demanded his phone, saying they wanted to talk and play songs. The complainant stated in the complaint, “I was listening to songs on my phone and hence I did not give them the phone.” He alleged that the refusal triggered an immediate assault: “They started abusing me and began punching and kicking me.”He further alleged that after he fell, one attacker used a sharp weapon and attacked him in the stomach and near the right knee. The complainant also suffered a head injury from the fall. His friend intervened, and the attackers fled.The victim stated in the complaint that he was then admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
