Gandhinagar: The Gujarat labour department on Thursday conducted an awareness programme for industry representatives and workers on the Centre’s four new labour codes, which bring together provisions of 29 existing labour laws. The event emphasised the need for stronger compliance, safer workplaces, and better coordination between employers and employees.Labour and employment minister Kunvarji Bavaliya chaired the programme, which was attended by minister of state Kantilal Amrutiya. Discussions centred on the key provisions of the new labour codes and their likely impact on industries and workers.Addressing the gathering, Bavaliya said the four codes were designed to simplify multiple labour laws while maintaining a balance between the interests of industry and workers.He highlighted that the new framework gives significant importance to worker safety, healthy working conditions, access to clean drinking water, wages, and social security benefits. These provisions, he said, aim to safeguard workers’ rights while supporting efficient industrial operations.Labour, skill development and employment secretary Lochan Sehra said the department was gradually moving its services and processes online to improve efficiency and transparency.
