Ahmedabad: An ex-serviceman lost Rs 46.9 lakh after fraudsters lured him into using an online trading platform with assurances of huge returns on investment. A complaint was registered with cybercrime police on Tuesday.He came across a Facebook reel in May, claiming that an investment of Rs 22,000 in a platform named Quantum AI could fetch monthly returns of Rs 3.5 lakh. Convinced, he registered and entered his contact details.Later, he began receiving calls from individuals claiming to be representatives and account managers of the platform. The callers allegedly directed him to a website, bxbmarkets.com, and persuaded him to invest in gold, silver, oil and natural gas.He initially invested Rs 22,390 through UPI and was later allegedly instructed to transfer larger amounts to multiple bank accounts through RTGS. Between June and July, he transferred Rs 68.50 lakh through RTGS and Rs 2.32 lakh through UPI, taking his total investment to Rs 70.82 lakh.His account on the trading platform showed substantial profits, prompting him to invest more. However, when he attempted to withdraw his money, only Rs 23.89 lakh was returned, while Rs 46.92 lakh remained unreturned. He was allegedly told that further investment was required to withdraw the remaining amount.Suspecting fraud, the ex-serviceman contacted the cybercrime helpline on Aug 26. Later, cybercrime police registered a complaint of cheating and criminal conspiracy under BNS.
