Ahmedabad: A 77-year-old retired resident of Paldi filed a police complaint alleging he was cheated of Rs 85 lakh on the pretext of a land deal in Dholka. According to the complaint, the man sold his poultry farm near Sanand in 2020. He was later approached by a property broker who suggested he invest the proceeds in agricultural land, assuring him of good returns.The complainant stated that in 2021, he was introduced to individuals who claimed ownership of a parcel of land measuring around 35 bighas near GIDC in Dholka. During visits to the site, the individuals present there allegedly presented themselves as the owners and showed documents related to the land.After negotiations, the deal was finalized at Rs 45 lakh per bigha. The complainant agreed to buy the land and initially paid Rs 20 lakh in cash in Nov 2021. He was later asked to transfer an additional Rs 65 lakh, which he sent via RTGS to a bank account provided by one of the accused. Police said the complainant was assured that the sale deed would be executed soon. However, despite repeated follow-ups, it was not done, and the money was not returned.The complainant alleged that the accused acted in collusion and had a prior plan to cheat him. Based on the complaint, Paldi police registered a case of cheating and breach of trust and initiated an investigation.
