Dibrugarh: With the monsoon season approaching, the Jorhat district administration convened a flood preparedness meeting on Wednesday at the district commissioner’s office to outline strategies for managing floods.The meeting was presided over by district commissioner Jay Shivani and brought together senior district officials, disaster management authorities, food and civil supplies department representatives, local vendors and suppliers to discuss coordinated flood response measures.Discussion was held regarding the systematic distribution of relief materials among flood-affected communities. The administration held detailed deliberations with local businessmen and suppliers to assess their readiness and align advance procurement strategies for the upcoming flood season.The district commissioner emphasised that timely assistance to flood-affected citizens remained the administration’s foremost priority.“We want to ensure that when floodwaters rise, the administration is fully prepared to respond swiftly. There should be no shortage of food, essential commodities or relief materials for our people. Every department and every supplier must understand their role clearly. When the situation demands, there should be no delay in reaching relief to those who need it,” the district commissioner said.Officials of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department participated in the meeting alongside departmental heads and local supply chain representatives. Together, they mapped out coordination mechanisms to ensure a steady flow of essentials during emergency situations.The administration instructed all stakeholders to remain vigilant and maintain a state of readiness throughout the flood season. Officials were directed to keep updated stock inventories, ensure transportation arrangements are in place and establish direct communication lines with district control rooms.
