Prayagraj: In the wake of a peaceful Muharram, the Pratapgarh administration has placed 13 people, including Uday Pratap Singh, the father of Kunda MLA Raja Bhaiya, under house arrest from Thursday morning until Friday night.A notice has been pasted outside Singh’s residence, Badri House, on the directives of the SDM, Kunda, regarding the house arrest.Additional SP, Pratapgarh West, Brijnandan Rai said, “Uday Pratap Singh and 12 of his supporters will not be allowed to step out of their houses from the morning of June 25 until the night of June 26. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at their residences.”It is alleged that Uday Pratap Singh and his supporters try to organise a ‘bhandara’ (community feast) every year to mark the anniversary of a monkey that died years ago on the Muharram procession (Tazia) route in the Sheikhpur Aashiq area.“Based on reports, district authorities have found that Singh, along with his followers and supporters, could disturb communal harmony. As a precautionary measure, Uday Pratap Singh and some of his supporters have been placed under house arrest,” a senior police officer said.Meanwhile, heavy deployment of police personnel and PAC battalions has been made to maintain law and order in the district.
