Kanpur: Two people died while five others were left seriously injured after a speeding car rammed into the rear of a truck trailer early Monday morning in the Jaswantnagar area on the Agra-Kanpur National Highway in Etawah, police said.All the injured were referred to the medical college. The accident occurred in front of Jonai village. The collision was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely destroyed, and the occupants got trapped inside due to the impact. According to police, the trailer was carrying rice from Kanpur and was heading towards Gujarat when the car coming from behind suddenly went out of control and collided with the rear portion of the trailer. Due to high speed, the car was badly damaged. Passers-by informed the police, following which a police team reached the spot and rescued the trapped occupants after considerable effort. Station House Officer Kamal Bhati said that all the car occupants were residents of Islampur village in the Sarila police station area of Hamirpur district. He said 55-year-old Chetram and 45-year-old Sukhwasi died on the spot.Girija Devi, wife of Chetram, remained in critical condition. Rajendra, Anjali, Rajesh and Reshma Devi were also injured. Police took both bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem. The deceased’s brother, Suresh, said that all of them were returning to Delhi after attending a wedding ceremony in the village, and the accident occurred as they reached near Jaswantnagar.
