Kanpur: The body of an Agniveer posted in the Sikhlai Regiment in Fatehgarh was found hanging from a noose in a barrack on Wednesday.The Agniveer had been missing from his battalion for three days. When a foul smell came from the empty barrack, the police were called. The barrack was opened and the body was brought down.Agniveer Jasanpreet (22), a resident of village Bhagatgarh in Talewal police station area of Barnala district in Punjab, was posted in the Battalion of the Sikhlai Regiment in Fatehgarh. He had been sent here in March for training. Three days ago he had gone missing. He was being searched for in the regiment.On Wednesday, when a foul smell came from the barrack of the MTC quarter, the Fatehgarh Kotwali police were informed. Central Jail Police Out-post in-charge Shiv Kumar reached the spot with the force. When he kicked open the door of the barrack, the Agniveer’s body was found hanging. As the body was two days old, it had decomposed. The forensic team collected evidence from the spot.During questioning it was told that the Agniveer had been missing from his battalion for three days. The Agniveer had latched the empty barrack from inside and hanged himself from a noose. Fatehgarh Kotwali inspector Tej Singh said that after the postmortem, the body has been handed over to the people of the unit. “The postmortem report has confirmed death two days before the hanging,” police sources added.
