Prayagraj: Severe heatwave conditions continued to grip Prayagraj on Saturday as the Sangam City remained the second hottest place in Uttar Pradesh for the third consecutive day, trailing Banda by a narrow margin of just 0.2 degrees Celsius. According to the meteorological department, Prayagraj recorded a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, while Banda topped the state at 46.2 degrees Celsius.IMD maintained a red alert for Prayagraj and adjoining districts, warning that heatwave conditions will likely persist over the next few days. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during afternoon hours.The minimum temperature in Prayagraj settled at 26.8 degrees Celsius, making the night relatively warmer and uncomfortable for residents. Compared to Friday, when the city recorded a maximum of 46.2 degrees Celsius and minimum of 26.4 degrees Celsius, the daytime temperature dipped marginally by 0.2 degree Celsius, while the night temperature rose by 0.4 degrees Celsius.Harsh sunlight and hot winds from early morning kept residents indoors Saturday, leaving roads and markets deserted during peak afternoon hours. Even brief outdoor movement was difficult. Low clouds gathered post-noon, bringing slight relief by evening. The weather was comparatively less severe than Friday.The heatwave also hit stray animals and birds hard. Many were seen searching for water along roadsides, parks, and residential areas. Animal lovers and social workers placed earthen pots and water containers for birds, stray dogs, and cattle in several localities. Residents also kept drinking water outside homes and shops for commuters.
