Mysuru: Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) chairman and Srirangapatna MLA Ramesha Bandisiddegowda on Tuesday directed the agencies concerned to complete the ongoing underground (UG) cable installation works in the city by Oct 5.Chairing a meeting with CESC officials and representatives of the agencies concerned at CESC office to review the progress of UG cable works, he said all ongoing works and 100% restoration of roads and footpaths affected by the works must be completed within the deadline.He also directed officials to temporarily halt new works in view of the upcoming Dasara festivities. “There will be no compromise on completing the works within the deadline. Action will be taken against those who fail to complete the works on time,” he warned.Expressing displeasure over roads and footpaths being left dug up after cable installation, Ramesha directed officials to identify these locations and restore them immediately. Debris generated from the works should be completely removed and properly disposed of. Barricades and warning signs should also be installed at work sites to ensure public safety, he added.He stressed the need for coordination among agencies executing white-topping, underground drainage and UG cable works to avoid inconvenience to the public.“All UG cable-related materials and CESC equipment placed on footpaths and other parts of the city should be removed immediately ahead of Dasara to ensure smooth traffic movement and maintain the city’s appearance,” he said.A review meeting will be held on Oct 6 to assess the progress of UG cable works. Heads of all agencies have been directed to attend the meeting. The chairman warned that further action would be taken if the works remained incomplete by then.
