Mysuru: Leader of the opposition in legislative council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy alleged that Congress is trying to create a major problem in the country, by creating confusion about the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said that SIR has been conducted once every 20 years, and was also carried out during Congress rule. “It is now being conducted under the BJP govt. There is no connection between the BJP and SIR,” he said.Narayanaswamy alleged that Congress had now become a follower of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which he claimed is yet to be registered as a political party.He said SIR was aimed at removing ineligible names from electoral rolls and identifying illegal immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh. “Can voting rights be given to such people?” he asked.“Whenever Congress leaders speak, they allege vote theft. Then, did vote theft take place in Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala where Congress won?” he asked.Narayanaswamy said the process of removing bogus voters after SIR had created anxiety within Congress. He alleged that the party was opposing SIR only to target BJP, and that its agitation had no substance.He also criticised AICC chief Mallikarjuna Kharge for speaking about RSS. Narayanaswamy said RSS volunteers use sticks only as part of their uniform during drills, and that the organisation had never attacked anyone with them. He said Congress leaders continued to criticise RSS despite state govt clarifying that there were no allegations against the organisation.Narayanaswamy alleged that home minister Priyank Kharge was incapable of protecting Dalits, and accused him of using the Dalit community for political power.He alleged that Dalits were being killed in Kalyana Karnataka, and claimed that 13 Dalits had been murdered recently in the state. He also alleged that atrocities against Dalits had increased across Karnataka.Narayanaswamy further alleged that Rs 53,000 crore earmarked for Dalits and backward classes had been diverted for other purposes.
