Nagpur: A few days after a TOI report highlighted the inordinate delay in the road concretisation project in Pratap Nagar, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) swung into action on Saturday. Municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar and Standing Committee chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare visited the site to assess the progress of the long-pending work and directed officials and the contractor to expedite its completion.The road, one of the key arterial stretches in the locality, which connects Pratap Nagar to Orange City Street, has remained under construction for nearly two years, causing daily traffic snarls, dust pollution, and immense inconvenience to commuters, residents and businesses.

The incomplete stretch has become a major bottleneck, particularly during peak hours, drawing repeated complaints from locals.During the inspection, the civic chief reviewed the status of the ongoing work with engineers and the contractor. Sources said the contractor was pulled up over the prolonged delay and instructed to speed up execution to ensure the project is completed at the earliest. Officials assured residents that smooth traffic movement would be restored without further unnecessary delays.Dani-Wakhare said the project had been held due to pending clearances from the World Bank. “People of Pratap Nagar have been facing severe inconvenience because the road project has remained incomplete for a long time. Keeping citizens’ concerns in mind, I held discussions on-site with the municipal commissioner, concerned officials, and the contractor. I have directed them to immediately resolve the hurdles and accelerate the pace of work,” she said.According to Dani-Wakhare, the contractor has assured the civic body that the pending issues will be resolved, and the project will be back on track within the next month. She added that she would personally monitor the progress to ensure the work is completed within the promised timeline.The inspection comes in the wake of TOI’s report exposing the prolonged delay and the hardships faced by commuters. Residents expressed hope that the intervention by the city’s top civic officials would finally bring the long-awaited project to completion and provide relief from the daily ordeal caused by the unfinished road.
