Pune: The National Green Tribunal on Monday directed Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to file their affidavits after it took suo motu cognisance of The Times of India’s report on the July 8 Moshi waste depot tragedy that claimed nine lives.An NGT bench comprising judicial member Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and expert member Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi sought the responses. During the hearing, the bench asked the civic body’s counsel whether the waste-to-energy plant’s administrative building was located on the premises of the Moshi garbage depot.Counsels representing the civic body and the pollution board appeared before the tribunal. After both respondents sought time, the tribunal set Aug 20 as the date to submit their affidavits.The NGT initiated proceedings based on TOI’s reports on the collapse of the administrative building at the plant after a portion of the legacy waste crashed into the structure.The garbage mound, estimated to be 25-30m high, was around 30m from the building and formed part of the civic body’s legacy waste dump.
