NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take action against illegal structures, with inspections and demolition drives planned in several parts of the capital.Senior municipal corporation officials have been instructed to remain on the ground as the civic body carries out the action.Gupta also ordered inspections of paying guest (PG) accommodations across Delhi, directing officials to check for unauthorised construction and examine building records.“Conduct intensive inspections of all PG hostels in Delhi and take action against illegal construction. Scrutinise building records, determine exactly when the illegal construction took place, and under whose jurisdiction.”The directive comes days after a PG building known as ‘Hostel Daze’ collapsed in Satya Niketan, killing seven people and raising concerns about the safety of accommodation used by students in the area.The building collapsed at around 1pm on Sunday. Police received information about the incident at 1.34pm.The structure, which had a ground floor and four upper floors, housed several students and other residents.According to the FIR, a local inquiry found that the building was over 30 years old and that additional floors had allegedly been constructed to generate rental income.
