Dhubri: Arunendu Acharjee, an amateur philatelist from Gauripur town in Assam’s Dhubri district, is preparing for a national-level contest to be held in New Delhi this year after winning contests at the regional levels in the past.Acharjee, 46, began collecting stamps in 1995 and first exhibited his collection in 2003, followed by another exhibition in 2004 organised by the Goalpara divisional postal department in Dhubri. He later won silver and bronze medals at the Assam Circle Philately Exhibition in 2019 and 2022 respectively, and has participated in exhibitions and contests in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir.He also won a Silver Medal at a philately contest in Bangladesh in 2021.On Nov 28,2025, Acharjee donated Indian Air Force-related stamps and coins on the Kargil War and military history collections to the Red Horns Division.Talking to TOI, Acharjee said he developed an early habit of preserving newspaper clippings related to the Indian Army while continuing to collect old and new postal stamps. “At present, I am preparing for the national level philately exhibition and contest with an innovative way to attract the imagination of viewers. I am readying a 20-sheet album on Operation Sindoor which I will present to Eastern Command headquarters in Kolkata soon,” he said.Residents said Acharjee’s hobby of philately and newspaper cutting has brought laurels to Gauripur and made locals proud.
