Ferozepur: Cases of infection in animals, likely caused by contamination of water, in Hazara Singh Wala village of Ferozepur district, have triggered an alarm among the residents.Earlier, water-borne infections were on the rise among the human population of the village, and now it has started affecting the cattle, claimed the residents.After two deaths were reported due to contaminated water, the health department conducted a medical camp in the village on Tuesday, where 110 residents were examined, and 80 samples were taken for testing.One patient was referred to the Ferozepur Civil Hospital after his condition was stated to be serious. Meanwhile, the report of the samples collected earlier revealed two new cases of jaundice and liver infection.Meanwhile, the animal husbandry and veterinary department team has found leptospirosis in five out of the eight samples taken from animals in the village. The infected animals include two cows, a buffalo and two dogs.Samples of 36 more animals were taken and sent to the laboratory for testing. Earlier, the infection was confirmed in the samples sent to the Northern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Jalandhar.The health department has also started a door-to-door survey in the village to identify the affected people and ensure their treatment in time. The patients who were discharged from the hospital are being kept under special surveillance.A 24-hour medical camp has been set up in the village gurdwara, and doctors and staff have been deployed so that immediate treatment can be provided if required.At present, 10 patients are admitted to the Civil Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment for the infection.MSID:: 129953097 413 |
