TNNCalangute: The construction of the Candolim Health Centre building, which has been delayed multiple times, is now likely to be completed in the coming months following the lapse of the June 2026 deadline.“I am pleased to see that the project is now in its final stages of completion. This modern healthcare facility will significantly strengthen medical services in our constituency, ensuring better access to quality healthcare for the people of Candolim and surrounding areas, ” said Michael Lobo, chairperson of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, after an inspection this week.Lobo said that although the project has been delayed, it will be completed in the next few months.Chief minister Pramod Sawant, who had worked for a year as an ayurvedic doctor at the Candolim PHC, laid the foundation stone in Feb 2020. While the project was slated for completion in 2022, it was delayed by the pandemic.Locals and tourism stakeholders have been demanding a full-fledged hospital with emergency trauma facilities as many accidents have been occurring in the Calangute-Candolim belt, with the injured being taken to GMC Bambolim.Once the Candolim primary health centre (PHC) is shifted to the new complex, it will be upgraded to a community health centre (CHC). Built for Rs 16.4 crore, it includes a ground plus first floor with outpatient department facilities, male and female wards, casualty, laboratory, X-ray machine room, and so on.The existing PHC building, built around 50 years ago, will also continue to function.
