GURGAON: A woman accused a married couple of blackmailing her with objectionable videos and extorting money over several years, including a fresh demand of Rs 15 lakh earlier this month, police said.Police arrested a 35-year-old woman on Saturday after she was caught red-handed while receiving cash in Palam Vihar, officers said on Wednesday.The arrested accused, identified as Nitu Sharma, a resident of Palam Vihar, was apprehended from the parking area of Devi Lal Park during a trap laid by a team from Palam Vihar police station. Officers said Rs 1 lakh in cash, kept in a bag, was recovered from her possession.According to police, the case is based on a complaint filed on March 20. The complainant alleged that she came in contact with a yoga instructor, Rakesh Sharma, in July 2020.“After frequent meetings, they became friends and developed a physical relationship. Over time, he recorded objectionable videos and photographs of her,” a police officer said.Police said the accused had earlier extorted Rs 3 lakh from the complainant in 2023 as part of a “settlement”. “In March this year, the accused again demanded Rs 15 lakh, threatening to circulate the videos among her family members and acquaintances if the money was not paid,” the officer added.Acting on the complaint, police formed a team and laid a trap after receiving information that the accused would arrive at Devi Lal Park to collect money. Nitu was apprehended at the spot while accepting Rs 1 lakh from the complainant.During interrogation, police said it emerged that Nitu and her husband, Rakesh Sharma, were acting in concert and had created the videos and photos as part of a planned effort to blackmail the complainant.A case has been registered at Palam Vihar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.“The accused woman was taken on police remand for two days and later produced before a court, which sent her to judicial custody. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest her husband,” the officer said.
