Lucknow: After nearly 44 hours of heavy rain, the intense spell over the state capital eased late Saturday evening. Light rain and drizzle returned to parts of the city on Sunday afternoon, though skies remained overcast. The prolonged spell also brought a sharp drop in temperatures.The maximum temperature fell to 24 degrees Celsius, 9.2 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at 21.2 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees below normal; the city recorded 2.7 mm of rain for the fourth consecutive day, with intermittent light showers and drizzles after the prolonged spell from the early hours of Friday to late Saturday evening.Rainfall was still significant during the 24 hours from Saturday morning till 8:30 am on Sunday. Hanuman Setu recorded 74.2 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the highest among the city’s weather stations. The other stations recorded 56.6 mm at Aliganj, 44 mm at Regional Meteorological Centre and 36.4 mm at Amausi.The sustained rainfall has pushed Lucknow’s rainfall from June 1 to Sept 27 to 846.6 mm, against the normal 675.7 mm for the period. This means the city has received 170.9 mm more rain than normal, or 25% above the seasonal average.Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast generally cloudy skies on Monday, with light rain or drizzle likely at some places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 29 and 22 degrees Celsius.RMC senior scientist Mohammad Danish said the deep depression that brought heavy rain to the region was weakening.“The active weather system from Bay of Bengal is weakening, so the intensity of rain is likely to come down. However, some areas may still receive light rain or drizzle over the next day.
