Ahmedabad: During the monsoon in 2025, three people, including a married couple, were electrocuted by poorly maintained street light poles.To prevent electrocutions this year, the civic body surveyed the city’s 2.17 lakh street light poles. Preventive maintenance was carried out on 82,075 poles — most of which, 18,494, are in North West Zone.Officials said that strict action will be taken against officers if any electrocution death occurs.At 8pm on June 25, 2025, Manubhai Panchal was riding past Mogal Mata temple in Odhav. His bike suddenly sank into a pit.The fire brigade recovered his body early the next morning. Gujarat Human Rights Commission summoned the municipal commissioner and AMC issued show-cause notices to four employees.Earlier in June 2025, a youth was electrocuted by a street light pole in Gheekanta, Dariyapur ward. A police complaint was filed against the contractor.In Sep that year, waterlogging in Narol caused a couple on a two-wheeler to die of electrocution after a fall.Another death in June 2025 occurred in Madhumalati Society, Kathwada. Kin and some neighbours of the victim alleged that flooding in the society stalled the ambulance’s arrival.
