Kolkata: Metro will run trains at 15-minute intervals between 6 am and 7 am to help commuters, especially students, from Monday. .Dozens of extra daily services have been addedPiyu Dutta, a Garia resident and mother of a Class 3 student at a central Kolkata school, said the new timings would be a major relief. “My daughter has to reach her school by 7.35 am, so we cannot afford to miss the first Metro, which departs from Shahid Khudiram station at 6.55 am Once Metro starts operating from 6 am, we will have a lot more buffer time,” she said.Elora Roy, a teacher at Welland Gouldsmith School, said the commute would become less stressful. “My school starts at 7.45 am. I take the Metro from Gitanjali Metro station to Central daily. If Metro services start early, it will help me reach school a little earlier and not be anxious about delays or service disruptions,” Roy said. The 6 am to 7 am service window is expected to be suitable for students as they can reach school on time. Even if they miss a train, the next one will arrive after 15 minutes. Frequency of the metro services will increase after 7 am.“We understand that the Blue Line, with a 5 lakh daily ridership, and the Green Line with a 2-lakh daily passenger count needed these modifications. We are happy to meet the expectations of our commuters,” Metro Railway spokesperson, S S Kannan, said.Night services are also being extended from 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm, a long-standing demand after the 10.40 pm special services were withdrawn on Sept 3 in 2025 for rake reversal facility construction.(With inputs from Tamaghna Banerjee & Dipawali Mitra)
