Behrampore: Tension gripped Behrampore on Saturday morning after Congress and Trinamool supporters clashed during campaigning near Battala in ward 19, in presence of senior Congress neta Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.Sources said TMC supporters were on a door-to-door campaign in the area when a Congress procession led by Chowdhury entered the same narrow lane. Trouble began when security personnel accompanying Chowdhury allegedly tried to clear the road for his movement.As the two groups came face to face, TMC supporters raised slogans of “Adhir Chowdhury go back”, while Congress workers responded with “Adhirda zindabad”. This soon escalated into a heated argument and then a scufflePolice intervened quickly to defuse the situation. The rival processions were diverted in separate directions. Both TMC and Congress lodged complaints against each other with the Elecetion Commission.The incident drew political attention as Chowdhury, a dominant figure in Behrampore politics for nearly three decades, appeared to face open resistance during campaigning on his home turf for the first time.Meanwhile, 4 TMC workers were arrested for unlawful obstruction during Chowdhury’s nomination filing
