T’puram: Actor and director E A Rajendran passed away at Pattathanam in Kollam on Thursday. He was 71. He was undergoing treatment for ailments for a few months.Born in Thrithallur in Thrissur, Rajendran was active in theatre during his school days and later became a professional theatre artist. He later married Sandhya, daughter of noted theatre director O Madhavan. He has also directed plays. Many of which were staged for Kalidasa Kalakendran of his father-in-law. He later moved to films and went on to act in around 60 movies. An alumnus of National School of Drama and Film and Television Institute of India, he started his career in films in the early 80s. Notable films include “Pattabhishekam”, “Daya”, “Pranayavarnangal”, “Narasimham” and “Kaliyattam”. His last film was “Oru Perumgaliyattam” by director Jayaraj in 2024. He also acted in television serials and produced many of them. He was also chairman of Horticulture Corporation during a hiatus from movies. He was the brother-in-law of actor Mukesh. Rajendran is survived by wife Sandhya and son Divyadarshan.
