Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the southwest monsoon is likely to remain active, bringing in rain and gusty winds across most parts of the state during the week.It would lead to partly cloudy skies becoming generally cloudy towards the afternoon or evening, with very light to light rain likely in Pune as well as heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the ghat areas. Heavy showers are likely in regions like Konkan and parts of Madhya Maharashtra.In Pune city, generally cloudy conditions would persist with light to moderate precipitation, while isolated heavy spells would continue over the ghat regions from July 28 to July 30.

Weather activity was expected to ease by July 31 and Aug 1, with partly cloudy mornings turning generally cloudy by late afternoon or evening, accompanied only by very light to light rain.The met department said rainfall would vary across Maharashtra after July 26. Konkan and Goa may see widespread, intense rainfall throughout the week, with very heavy spells on July 27 and heavy rain through to July 31. Madhya Maharashtra would shift to light showers, though heavy to very heavy rain is predicted from July 27 to 31 — along with thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 kmph between July 28 and 30. Marathwada would mainly experience scattered rain, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds through to July 29.Meanwhile, Pune district and its surrounding ghat areas recorded varying amounts of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Sunday. In the ghats, Tamhini recorded the highest rainfall at 170 mm, followed by Bhivpuri at 158 mm, Khand at 152 mm and Shirgaon at 140 mm. Lonavala (Tata) registered 128 mm rainfall, while Walvan received 114 mm.In the urban and city areas in the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Sunday, Kurvande recorded the highest rainfall at 123 mm, followed by Lavale at 60 mm and Bhor at 50 mm. Talegaon recorded 29 mm and Rajgurunagar 25.5 mm. The figures were lower in core city areas with Hadapsar at 6 mm and Pashan at 5 mm. Till Sunday evening, Chinchwad had recorded 31 mm, followed by NDA at 17.5 mm and Koregaon Park at 7 mm. Shivajinagar registered the lowest aggregate at 5.4 mm.IMD officials said multiple weather systems were driving active monsoon conditions across the country, led by a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal that is expected to intensify into a deep depression and cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts by Monday. The system was linked across central India via an east-west shear zone and another low-pressure area over west Rajasthan. Additionally, the main monsoon trough remains active south of its normal position, supported by a western disturbance and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over central Assam.“Together, the aligned weather systems are maintaining widespread precipitation, strong winds and thunderstorm activity across central, eastern and western India,” said a senior IMD official.
