Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court has dismissed a writ petition to quash an FIR related to a planned acid attack over a property dispute, observing that such attacks are a ‘class apart’ due to the nature of the weapon used, highlighting the severity of such crimes.Dismissing the writ petition filed by the prime accused, Arun Shukla, a division bench comprising Justice JJ Munir and Justice Vinai Kumar Dwivedi noted the need for a thorough investigation of the case. The high court also expressed its displeasure with the state police department over not forwarding the injury reports in time before the case was taken up by the court. While issuing a stern warning, the court, in its order dated Apr 7, stated that it cannot go on summoning inspectors and superintendents of police from different districts merely to ensure the timely supply of injury reports. The court made it clear that if remedial action is not taken immediately, it would be compelled to summon the UP DGP or the additional chief secretary (home). An FIR was lodged against Shukla at Karchhana police station in Prayagraj on Dec 6, 2025. During the course of the hearing, the court found that the allegations pertained to a “dastardly design” to attack the victim with corrosive acid. The prosecution claimed the acid attack was premeditated, stemming from a property dispute. According to the FIR, another accused Rohit Sharma was part of the conspiracy hatched by the petitioner.
