Udupi: A man who had been evading arrest for nearly nine years in connection with four criminal cases was arrested by a team from Karkala police in Pandavapura, Mandya district, on Oct 3.The accused, identified as H Venkatesh, from Shivamogga, had been declared a long-pending court case (LPC) accused after he failed to appear before the court despite securing bail. According to police, Venkatesh was accused in four cases registered at the police station. He had secured bail in 2009 and was released from custody, but subsequently failed to appear before the court. He was arrested in 2017 and produced before the court, but after securing bail again, he remained absent for nearly nine years. Warrants were subsequently issued against him in the four cases, and proceedings to declare him an LPC accused were initiated. Following his arrest, he was produced before the court the next day. The court remanded him to judicial custody till Oct 17 and he was lodged in district prison, Hiriyadka.2 absconding accused held in 18-year-old theft caseIn another case, Manipal police arrested two accused who had absconded for nearly 18 years after a theft case was registered in 2008 and they failed to appear before the court. The accused, identified as Mohammed Haneef and Faiyaz Mohammed, were wanted at Manipal police station in a case registered in 2008 under Section 379 of the IPC. The accused were traced and arrested from Ullal and Talapady by Manipal police head constables Chetan and Manjunath. They were subsequently produced before the court. The court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the two accused and disposed of the case.Accused in job fraud case arrested after 15 yearsMangaluru: Vittal police arrested a 52-year-old man who had been absconding for nearly 15 years without appearing before the court in a cheating case registered in 2011. The accused, Hibbathulla, a resident of Balya in Puttur, was wanted in Vittal police station in a case registered in 2011 under Sections 420, 465, 468 and 471 read with Section 34 of the IPC.According to police, Hibbathulla had allegedly collected money from two persons by promising to secure them jobs in a bank. However, he neither secured the jobs nor returned the money, following which a case was registered against him. The accused had failed to appear before the court during the trial. Vittal police personnel Shivananda Maddi, Siddappa and Yankappa traced and arrested him and produced him before the court on Monday. The court remanded him to judicial custody.
