JAMMU, Sept 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Talib Hussain, posted at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.
According to the ACB, a case under FIR No. 08/2026 , Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered at ACB Police Station Udhampur against the accused police official.
The ACB said that Hussain, who was working as the Investigating Officer in a case, allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in return for presenting the charge sheet (challan) against the accused persons before the court.
Unwilling to pay the demanded bribe, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and sought legal action. The Bureau subsequently conducted a discreet verification of the complaint, which, it said, confirmed the demand for illegal gratification.
Following the verification, a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was constituted. During the trap operation, the ACB team allegedly caught ASI Talib Hussain red-handed while he was demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant.
The accused officer was arrested on the spot following due legal procedure. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.
The ACB said that further investigation into the case is underway.
The Bureau further stated that the latest operation marks the second successful trap laid at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district during 2026.
