Jaipur: A 34-year-old AC technician fell to his death from the 15th floor of an apartment building in Jaipur Thursday while repairing an air conditioner on a balcony, with his family alleging that he had been made to work without basic safety equipment despite objecting to the job.The incident occurred around 2.30pm at the Sinthonica building on Gandhi Path under Chitrakoot police station. The deceased, Salman Khan, a resident of Barkat Colony in Polo Victory area, worked as a Voltas AC technician.Police said Salman had gone to a flat on the 15th floor after receiving a complaint for AC repair. He was working on an AC installed in the balcony while standing on a wall about 1.5 feet wide.According to the preliminary investigation, the wall had become slippery because of rain. Salman lost his balance while working and fell from the 15th floor, landing on the roof of the first floor.He suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot.Chitrakoot police reached the building after being alerted and collected evidence from the site. The body was taken to Kanwatia Hospital, where a postmortem examination was conducted before it was handed over to the family.Salman’s family has alleged that the death resulted from negligence by the company’s engineer, contractor and others. They claimed Salman objected to carrying out the repair without a safety belt or rope but was nevertheless pressured to do the work.Police said the allegations were being examined as part of the investigation. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry and the postmortem report.
