Mangaluru: An accused who evaded court proceedings for nearly four years was arrested by Mangaluru City police. The individual was wanted in multiple cases across Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the arrested accused is K Abdul Basheer alias Arga Basheer, 50, a resident of Thenka Mijar village of Moodbidri. He was involved in about 17 cases registered in various police stations in Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts.The accused, Basheer, was absconding for approximately four years after failing to appear for trial, leading the court to issue non-bailable and proclamation arrest warrants against him. During this time, he vacated his residence at Arga House in Thenka Mijar village and relocated his family to a rented house in Parliya near BC Road in Bantwal taluk. Acting on a tip-off, police traced the accused and took him into custody. A fresh case was also registered against him at Moodubidire police station for evading court hearing, the commissioner said.There are 17 cases registered against him at Moodubidire, Bajpe, Mangaluru Rural, Dharmasthala, Belthangady and Kalasa police stations. The charges against him include theft, unlawful assembly, assault, criminal intimidation, attempt to murder, offences under the Arms Act and violations related to the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
