Ranchi: The Ranchi office of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall across four districts in the next 24 hours. Additionally, in an extended forecast for the next two weeks, the weather office predicted above-normal rain across the state till Sept 10.A yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall was issued for Chatra, Hazaribag, Koderma and Giridih districts. Ranchi, the met office said, will experience cloudy skies on Friday. The forecast came as Ranchi and Jharkhand geared up to celebrate Raksha Bandhan.“Besides heavy rain in the four districts, isolated parts of the state are also likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds on Friday. Most places are expected to remain cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers,” said IMD Ranchi head Baburaj P.P.Many places across the state received rain on Thursday too. Ranchi recorded 34.2 mm while Jamshedpur recorded 22.2 mm rain. Daltonganj recorded 48.6 mm rain while Bokaro recorded 0.6 mm rain on Thursday.Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 30 °C on Thursday, while Jamshedpur recorded 34 °C, Daltonganj 34.2 °C, Bokaro 31.5 °C and Chaibasa recorded 35.4 °C.From Aug 28 till Sept 3, the state is likely to record normal to above-normal maximum temperature in the range 27-34 °C. In the subsequent week, from Sept 4 till Sept 10, normal to below-normal maximum temperature in the range 26-32 °C is likely to be recorded in the state, according to the extended range forecast.
