NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Saurav Das expressed concern over the whereabouts of party members Balakrishna and Sudhir, alleging that Delhi Police had detained them while they were peacefully protesting and had not informed the organisation about their location. In a post on X, Das said the party’s efforts to locate the two had been unsuccessful and that Balakrishna’s brother was extremely worried about his safety. He alleged that Delhi Police was keeping them incommunicado and refusing to allow them to contact their families or access a lawyer of their choice.“We are very concerned about the safety of our organisation members Balakrishna and Sudhir. The Delhi Police had detained them today while they were peacefully protesting and their whereabouts are currently unknown. All our efforts to locate them have been in vain. Balakrishna’s brother is extremely worried about his life,” Das wrote on X.“The Delhi Police is illegally keeping them in detention, incommunicado, and refusing to provide him a lawyer of his choice or let him contact his family members. This is a clear-cut violation of the Supreme Court’s order ,” Das said, adding that the party’s lawyers would move a contempt petition if their whereabouts were not disclosed immediately. The concerns came amid a press conference at the Press Club of India, where CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Das questioned the police action against their members and thousands of protesters who had joined demonstrations at the party’s call.During the interaction with journalists, Das also raised concerns about the possible hacking of mobile phones seized during the detentions. He expressed apprehension that the devices could have been accessed or tampered with while in police custody. The press conference was attended by Ranka, Das, Singh, SFI member Aishe Ghosh and other Left-backed student activists. They raised questions about the action taken against the party and the protesters who had turned up in response to its call. The CJP has been demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party has said it will continue its protest until Kumar resigns.
