Abdul Ghafoori charged with murder of Himanshi Khurana

Canadian police have arrested and charged a 32-year-old Toronto man with first-degree murder in the death of his Indian-origin partner, 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana, in December last year.Toronto police said officers from the fugitive squad and homicide unit worked with national and international law enforcement agencies to bring Abdul Ghafoori back to Canada. Police did not disclose the country where he had been located.Khurana was Toronto’s 40th homicide victim of 2025. Investigators determined that her death was a homicide and said she had been in an “intimate partner relationship” with Ghafoori.Ghafoori was arrested at a Toronto airport on Friday, police said. He was due to appear in court on Saturday morning to face a first-degree murder charge.Police found Khurana’s body inside a residence near Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West. Officers responded to a missing person report on December 19 last year, and found her deceased inside the residence the following day.The Indian Consulate in Toronto expressed grief over Khurana’s death, saying it was “deeply saddened and shocked” by the murder. The consulate said it had been in contact with the family and local authorities and was providing all possible assistance.“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Ms. Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. We extend our deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief. The Consulate has been in close touch with the matter over the past few days, and all possible assistance is being extended to the family in close coordination with local authorities,” the Consulate said in a post on X.
