Rajkot: Approximately 15 workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were detained by police after organizing a protest and conducting a “symbolic inauguration” of the Sandhya Bridge on Rajkot-Jamnagar road on Saturday.According to a statement from the party, despite the bridge being complete, it has not been opened for public use under the ruling BJP administration. In response, AAP workers took matters into their own hands, demanding that the “bridge built with people’s money” be opened to the public immediately. This railway overbridge cost Rs 74 crore and will benefit 1.50 lakh commuters each day.“AAP leaders criticized the BJP govt for its negligence and hypocrisy, pointing out that while the ruling party preaches about saving petrol and diesel, their decision to postpone the inauguration has forced citizens to take long, frustrating detours. The party highlighted that this unnecessary delay is leading to a massive waste of the public’s time, fuel, and money.” the statement said.AAP Rajkot city president Dinesh Joshi said that the BJP rulers are too busy with their own events and “do not have time,” leaving ordinary citizens to suffer the daily inconvenience. He insisted that a completed public infrastructure project should not be delayed just for an official political ribbon-cutting.According to the sources, the inauguration is delayed because the new office bearers of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) are yet to be appointed by BJP state leadership, nearly a month after the election results were declared.
