New Delhi: AAP will organise a campaign across Gujarat for MLA Chaitar Vasava from June 26, senior leader Gopal Rai said on Wednesday.

A sessions court in the Narmada district sentenced Vasava, his wife and seven others to seven years’ imprisonment in a 2023 case of assaulting forest officials and extortion. Additional Sessions Judge A V Hirpara also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of them.
Rai, who is AAP’s Gujarat unit in-charge, said that support marches will be held across the state in all districts by party members.

“The BJP could not digest the win of Vasava from Gujarat. The ‘ED Party‘ conspired to get Chaitar Vasava sentenced to seven years in jail. To oppose this, from June 26, AAP will carry out support marches across the state,” Rai said.

“I want to warn the ‘ED Party’ that such hooliganism does not work in a democracy. Ultimately, it is the people who prevail,” he added.

Rai further said that all the legal steps will also be taken by the party in the matter.
A day earlier, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal came out in support of Vasava, claiming that the charges against him were false. He alleged the case was part of a conspiracy hatched against Vasava by the BJP due to his “growing popularity” and work among tribals in Gujarat.
