Chandigarh: The Chandigarh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Saturday alleged discrepancies in the handling of legacy waste at the Dadumajra dumping ground, citing an Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) feasibility study that it claimed found 9 to 13 metres of legacy waste still present at the site.AAP councillor Yogesh Dhingra said the reported findings cast doubt on years of waste processing, bio-mining and remediation efforts undertaken at Dadumajra.“If crores of rupees have been spent on scientific waste processing, bio-mining and legacy waste remediation, why does such a large volume of legacy waste still remain underground?” he asked.Former mayor and AAP councillor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor said residents living around the dumping ground have endured foul smell, pollution and concerns over contaminated water for years. He said the environmental and public health issues faced by local residents warrant urgent attention. The party demanded an independent, high-level inquiry into the matter and sought that the findings be placed in the public domain. It also called for immediate steps to mitigate pollution and provide relief to residents living in and around Dadumajra.AAP leaders said the reported observations in the feasibility study have renewed concerns over the effectiveness of waste management measures at the site and underscored the need for greater transparency and accountability in the remediation process.
