CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers staged a protest outside the Election Commission office in Sector 17, Chandigarh, on Saturday against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities and “vote chori”. The protesters demanded his resignation and raised slogans in support of free and fair elections.Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, and several party leaders, MLAs and workers participated in the demonstration. The protest was organised in support of a youth-led campaign alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Tensions escalated when protesters marched towards the office to gherao it. Chandigarh Police stopped them with barricades, leading to pushing and scuffling. Sisodia and several other protesters were detained by the police. The demonstration highlighted the political confrontation over electoral transparency and voting rights, with AAP demanding accountability from the Election Commission.
