Assembly elections in Assam will be held on April 9 for all 126 seats, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. As per the schedule released by the Election Commission of India, the gazette notification for the elections will be issued on March 16, marking the formal start of the poll process.

The latest candidate list features Ranu Mai Teronpi, Biresh Difoesa, Pranab Priyangshu Dutta, Saynul Haque, Elvin Baruah and Ballav Patra.

AAP earlier released the first list of 14 candidates for the assembly elections to Assam, as it stands to compete against the ruling BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The BJP is looking to secure a third consecutive term, while the Congress aims to defeat the ruling party to return to power.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to release the candidates’ list for Assam polls on Wednesday.
As per an ET report, CM Sarma will hold the party’s first meeting to discuss candidate selection and nominations. “Tomorrow, there will be the first meeting over tickets and nominations. The party’s Parliamentary Board will finalise the BJP candidates on Wednesday,” he said on Tuesday.
He said the names of the candidates will be announced in a single phase. “There will be a single list of candidates. There could be exceptions if one or two constituencies are left pending.”
